Abstract

According to this study:

* Switching the fat and fiber content of the diets of groups at high risk (African Americans) and low risk (rural South Africans) for colon cancer led to marked changes in colonic bacterial content and colonic microbial metabolism.

* These changes were associated with significant changes in colonic mucosal inflammation and proliferation, which are biomarkers of cancer risk.
