Abstract
Those working in hospice and palliative care have experienced a period of substantial self-evaluation and have recognized the need for quality improvement. Though the call is for fostering a system of care that promotes quality, trust, and dignity for those who are dying, healthcare providers need benchmarks to know that such a system has been created. A healing care system is one in which people can trust healthcare providers to serve them well as they live and as they die. Though experts in the field know something about how to improve care, creating a healing environment should begin from the perspective of the dying. This article presents research that explored perspectives of healing as seen through the eyes of fourteen adult hospice patients. Implications for nursing practice and research are discussed.
