Abstract
This article examines an interdisciplinary team training model for new hospice employees using the Patient/Family Value Directed Model of Care (C) as a framework for training. The primary goal of this training model is to help new employees become competent, comfortable, and efficient in providing end-of-life care. The expectations of new hospice employees are different from other practice settings. To address these challenges, the implementation of an interdisciplinary team training model guided by mission, values, and hospice philosophy is described. The training model includes an interdisciplinary team-based mentor program and serves as an effective approach to prepare new employees to become competent to practice within the specialty of hospice and palliative care.
