Abstract

Research indicates that older adults with visual impairment experience self-imposed and societal restrictions in physical and social environments. The World Health Organization has identified a need to expand access to eye health services and to increase rehabilitation for individuals with visual impairment or blindness. Through the lens of occupational science, the models of Occupational Adaptation and Situational Leadership were examined to create a framework to promote occupational engagement. Occupational Leadership was developed from these models for health care practitioners to guide and facilitate the occupational engagement of older adults with visual impairment at the community level.
