Several issues regarding the NLC concern me. The first is the group's audacity in claiming to represent nurses. How dare they declare themselves a "leadership council" and claim to represent our profession when the NLC has no apparent processes for accountability or representation!
My second concern regards council members' complete lack of expertise in the area in which they are interpreting and backing nationally disseminated position papers. Not a single member of the NLC has expertise in the area of toxicology or occupational and environmental health.
Finally, the NLC was very selective in its literature review, seemingly ignoring the science that suggests a connection between chlorine compounds and breast cancer.
