Abstract
ABSTRACT: The study of syphilis has helped define the field of dermatology. Known as the "great imitator," syphilis has a number of cutaneous manifestations that have been carefully documented by scholars and physicians for several centuries; some believe that these intricate descriptions helped form the language of dermatology. Given the importance of syphilology in the development of dermatology as a field, and as an infectious disease with significant sequelae, we present a summary of the clinical manifestations and management of syphilis.
