As a family NP of 10 years with a master of science in nursing degree, I couldn't agree more with this Viewpoint.
I have no desire to pursue my DNP, because I have yet to meet a colleague who believes that DNP-educated nurses are better clinicians at the end of this program. And, for all the cost of acquiring a DNP, I haven't heard that this leads to a pay increase, at least in our area.
I hope to eventually obtain a DNP, but only if it becomes required to practice or the programs are tailored to ensure I'll become a better clinical NP.
