Abstract

Research is essential to the profession of nutrition and dietetics. Most registered dietitians recognize the value of research and yet have limited actual involvement as part of their work. This article explores the US history of involvement of registered dietitian in dietetics research, the current status of involvement of registered dietitians, barriers to and supports for health care practitioner participation in research, and studies on facilitating and expanding practitioner involvement in research.
