To the Editor:

I always enjoy the column "Getting Ready for Certification" as it provides many useful opportunities to prepare for the certification examination in addition to refreshing one's clinical knowledge. In "Study Hints, Know Your Wound Terminology" (Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing, 2014;41(2):175), the authors state there are no "organized standards for wound terminology."

Many readers may wish to refer to the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) "AAWC Wound Care Glossary," available at: http://aawconline.org/wp.../AAWC-Quality-of-Care-with-I-CVIswebsite-v3.pdf. There is no associated charge. As Chairperson of the AAWC Quality of Care Task Force that spearheaded this effort, we recognized, as did the authors, that wound terminology is inconsistent across the literature. The process of developing the glossary took several years, including content validation and publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The content validation process included invitations to several groups both nationally and internationally, including the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society. As a member of both WOCN and the AAWC, I was proud to have seen active participation by WOCN in this effort. As with most publications, new information always becomes available and the glossary is no exception.

Again, I applaud the effort of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Certification Board for their monthly efforts in producing this column.

Sincerely
