February's editorial touched my heartstrings and made me want to share some of my experiences as a nursing student at the Guangxi Medical University in Nanning, Guangxi, China.
While at the bedside or in the clinic ward, patients often disagree with me and express distrust when they see the identification card on my chest that says, "Student Nurse." Patients often ask if my teacher, who is beside me, can perform the procedure instead.
Most of my classmates experience this kind of scenario at the bedside, even though we are skilled and fit to perform the given procedure. This is very frustrating, because we need experience to gain more confidence.
