The Institute of Medicine (IOM) celebrates the anniversary of a landmark nursing report. At an end-of-the-year Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Lecture, the IOM celebrated the three-year anniversary of its landmark report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, highlighting the report's effects on health care so far and outlining upcoming priorities. A primary accomplishment attributed to the report is the 22% increase in baccalaureate nursing program enrollments between 2011 and 2012. Current nursing priorities include improving population-based approaches to health care, developing education and care models that focus on collaboration across health care disciplines, and readying practitioners to use technology to access information and provide better care.
