Abstract

This study attempted to validate a calcium rapid assessment method, a food frequency checklist. The rapid assessment method was compared with a single, investigator-administered 24-hour recall in 34 black women aged 50 years or older by estimating calcium intake. Dietary calcium intake estimated with the rapid assessment method was 681.6 +/- 345.6 and 659.8 +/- 330.3 mg/d for the 24-hour recall. Results showed a strong positive Pearson product-moment correlation (r = 0.98, P < .001) between the 2 methods. A Bland-Altman analysis also showed agreement with all values within +/-1.96SDs, indicating similar calcium estimations between the 2 methods.
