One of the main roles of a professional association is to provide access to education and disseminate knowledge among members of the profession. The National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) takes that role seriously. Members have access to education through conferences, e-mail updates, newsletters, and NANN's official journal, Advances in Neonatal Care (ANC). Dissemination of information is important. Our authors do amazing work, but if it was not communicated outside their own organization, it would not be of any use to the rest of us. That is the job of ANC, to bring up-to-date and cutting-edge knowledge to the members of NANN and to the neonatal community at large.
A journal does not get produced without a lot of hard work behind the scenes from a lot of people. The authors obviously do an incredible amount of work, including research, literature reviews, and putting all the information together into an article for publication. The staff at Lippincott, Williams, and Wilkins makes sure that the articles are formatted correctly and put into a venue that can be read by anyone looking for information. Our editorial board works hard to set the vision for the journal, to review manuscripts and sometimes author them, and to encourage new researchers and authors to submit their work. The NANN board of directors supports the work of the journal and makes sure that we have a publisher and editor to keep things going. The NANN staff at Association Management Company works to make this vision a reality and provides infrastructure for NANN to carry out its mission.
The NANN board of directors and the ANC editorial board are listed in the front of the journal. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their hard work. Since becoming the editor of the journal 7 years ago, I have appreciated their support and guidance. I could not have done this without the support of all the people who are working so hard behind the scenes. It has been a terrific experience and I am blessed to have been a part of it. Now it is time to turn over the journal to our new editors, Jacqueline McGrath, PhD, RN, FNAP, FAAN, and Debra Brandon, PhD, RN, CCNS, FAAN. They too will have the pleasure of working with dedicated staff and volunteers who contribute their time and talents to making the journal a success. I have no doubt that they will do a fantastic job of making ANC the premier journal for neonatal care providers.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our peer reviewers. The peer reviewer is a critical piece of the manuscript production process. Their feedback ensures that ANC provides quality, up-to-date, and accurate information. They provide invaluable feedback to authors to help them create the best possible manuscript. The peer reviewers for 2013 are listed later. Please thank them for their hard work and consider joining them on the list next year.
