Abstract
Healthcare leaders must be willing to test new models of care delivery while focusing actively on improving quality and the patient experience. For leaders to accomplish changes necessary to meet future challenges, information technology (IT) must provide real-time, actionable information. Clinical documentation systems must assist clinician decision making, provide predictive alerts, and guide patient care based on evidence. Roadblocks posed by IT gaps and possible strategies to bridge those gaps until such time as supportive IT systems are available will be discussed.
