Prostate cancer guidelines. New guidelines from the American Urological Association (AUA) address the early detection of prostate cancer using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening. After reviewing the evidence, the AUA recommended against screening in men younger than 40 years. PSA screening is also not recommended in men ages 40 to 54 years with an average risk of prostate cancer, in any man with a life expectancy of less than 10 to 15 years, or in men 70 years old or older. In men 55 to 69 years of age, providers should employ shared decision making, considering the harms and benefits of screening in the context of the man's values and preferences.
