HIV screening. In light of the estimate that 20% to 25% of HIV-positive people in the United States are unaware of their infection, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has called for screening in all adolescents and adults ages 15 to 65 years. Those above or below that range should also be screened if they are at high risk for HIV infection, as should all pregnant women, including those in labor whose HIV status is unknown.
