Nurse-led care of asthma patients on par with physicians'. According to a 2013 Cochrane review comparing nurse- and physician-led asthma care, patients with well-controlled asthma can receive care from NPs or specially trained asthma nurses that equals care provided by physicians. The review of five studies (a total of 588 adults and children) found nursing care equal to physician care in all aspects examined-including disease severity and exacerbations, costs, patient satisfaction, and quality of life. The studies primarily focused on well-controlled asthma, so more research will be needed on care for patients with uncontrolled asthma.
