Abstract
Older adults are at greater risk for having limited health literacy than other populations and consequently experiencing poorer health outcomes. Many older adults seek the services of rehabilitation professionals whose management frequently focus on instruction and teaching of new skills and knowledge. Use of best practices in health literacy and adult learning by rehabilitation professionals is essential to optimize health outcomes in older adult clients. This article discusses practical, evidence-based, culturally appropriate strategies in health literacy and adult learning for rehabilitation professionals to incorporate into practice to promote communication with and learning in older adults.
