What does a nurse do?
By Nancy Elliott, BSN, RN-BC
One hour she advocates
The next hour she educates
With eight people requesting her care
So many people, so little time, how is this fair?
One person wants to talk, one person has pain
At the same time another falls, sometimes she thinks it's insane
At the end of her shift, a patient's wife hands her a letter
Thanking her for the care she provided to help her husband feel better
At the end of the day when she is ready to retire for the night
She sighs and thinks about how being a nurse and helping others brings her delight.
Healing hands
By Tammy Sexton, CMSRN
Healing hands, loving touch
Giving what they need so much
Caring heart, mindful thought
Remembering skills we've been taught
Having empathy for how they feel
Providing comfort to those who are ill
Showing that we truly care
Letting them know we'll be there
Teaching others, easing pain
A rewarding career with much to gain
A nurse's job, all about mending
A nurse's job, never ending.
Nurse 2010
By Hanna Strydom, RN, CNE, CNM
Every day as I get up early,
There is a burning feeling in my heart.
What is this burning feeling making my heart bounce?
Oh yes! I am a nurse!
Today, I am going to make a difference.
I am going to be of help to somebody.
I do not want a medal or a drum roll.
Recognition and respect for what I do,
That is all!
Because it is with pride that I get up every day,
For you, you, and you!
Yes, I can say it with all honesty
I am a NURSE and very proud of it!
