Abstract
Stress fractures are a common ailment in athletes yet little is known about nutrition in the prevention and treatment. When athletes sustain a stress fracture they want to know if any nutrients aid in healing. This article reviews the incidence of stress fractures in athletes, the risk factors for developing a stress fracture and what nutrients are involved in preventing stress fractures and promoting bone health. Elements of a bone health diet and nutrient-rich snacks containing bone building nutrients are suggested for athletes.
