Abstract
Knee replacement is a common procedure for the relief of pain and dysfunction in both the active and sedentary individual. Despite these benefits, the procedure is not without complications. In particular, data on expected outcomes and treatment of those engaging in high-impact activities are rather scant and based on opinion or consensus statements. The purpose of this review was to highlight common impairments following a knee replacement as well as the common interventions used to promote a successful outcome. In addition, a framework for designing resistance-training programs for the active patient will be provided.
