Abstract
ABSTRACT: A nurse practitioner describes how God led her into work with the poor in Mississippi in the early 1980s. When this article was printed in 1984, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) and current Medicare and Medicaid guidelines on charging for healthcare services did not exist. The author offers keen insight into the cycle of poverty, how healthcare professionals can make a difference, and God's vision for treatment of the poor.
