JCN Appeals to Heart and Practice
As a new subscriber, I am especially impressed with the helpfulness of the articles in JCN. Rushing's article, "Am I Going to Die, Aunt Deborah?" (Vol. 29, No. 2) is well done, appealing to the heart and to practice. I first heard about Kubler-Ross/stages of death/dying in nursing school in the late 1970s. I recall how the author had stated that she'd never heard people regret not building a bigger home or whatever (in contrast to regrets patients voiced about not spending more time with family, etc.). I've found the book Tear Soup helpful in processing grief. Available at http://Amazon.com, I regularly give it out to families who have lost a loved one.
I loved Grypma's column, "The Legacy of Ordinary Nurses" (Vol. 29, No. 2). I am moved recalling how Elizabeth "Betty" Thomson Gale's daughter didn't realize she was raised in a prison camp until she was an adult due to Betty's care for her daughter during that internment!
Terrific Conference
Close to 150 attended the 3rd Biennial Innovations in Faith-Based Nursing conference at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN, June 18-21, 2012. A great time of personal and professional enrichment was had by all. Kudos to Indiana Wesleyan for a well-run conference, and thanks to the IWU, Nurses Christian Fellowship, and Eta Chi Sigma Theta Tau staff who made this a terrific event. JCN received this letter from one enthusiastic participant:
I was just in awe at what God is doing in the lives of the nurses I met and the people who are affiliated with JCN and NCF. What a wonderful organization that truly integrates faith and nursing. I found myself wanting more after this one!!
Plan now to attend Innovations in Faith-Based Nursing 2014!
