PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The RB Turnbull, JR School of WOC Nursing is an accredited Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Education Program. Established in 1961 the Cleveland Clinic WOCNEP program offers candidates a full scope courses 6 times a year. Clinical experience may be completed on the Cleveland Clinic campus or with an approved off-site preceptor. On successful completion of the didactic and clinical components the graduate is eligible to complete the certification exams through the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Certification Board.
ON-SITE EDUCATION OPTION: The on-site option is a full scope WOC nursing education program completed in 8 weeks. The didactic component is completed over the first 4 weeks, followed by 120 hours of clinical experience. The clinical experience can be completed on-site at Cleveland Clinic (limited on-site clinical seats available) or off-site under the mentorship of an approved preceptor. Classroom learning activities include lectures, group discussion, and lab experiences. A comprehensive final exam is completed at the end of the 4 week didactic learning experience.
ONLINE EDUCATION OPTION: The online option is a full scope WOC nursing education program. The didactic segment is presented completely online and includes four courses; Concepts in WOC Nursing, Wound and Skin Management, Fecal and Urinary Diversions, and Continence Management. Each of the courses are approximately four weeks long and include asynchronous discussion threads, self directed learning modules, individual and group projects, and a comprehensive final exam. All course work is completed and submitted within the learning management system. Once the didactic courses are completed, each learner will complete a 120 hour clinical experience with an approved preceptor.

Wound Care Specialty Program: The Harrisburg Area programs are accredited by the WOCN Society. The Wound Care Specialty curriculum advances the knowledge of the Baccalaureate prepared nurse in the nursing management of individuals with wounds and role implementation strategies.
Two Formats Are Available for the Learner:
1. An online program which is available to the student 24/7.
2. A 2 week on-site program presented in Central Pennsylvania several times a year.
Both options require a 60 hour clinical practicum following course theory.

Transition Course: The Transition Course offers two units of study that incorporate theoretical and clinical knowledge related to abdominal stomas and incontinence for a Wound Care Specialty nurse to become a WOC nurse. The theoretical portion may be achieved by attending an on-site class or completing two Home Study Modules. This option is followed by an additional 100 hours of clinical.

WOC Nursing Education Program Description: The Harrisburg Area programs are accredited by the WOCN Society. The Curriculum Is Offered in 3 Formats:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The University Of Virginia School Of Nursing offers WOC training within its master's programs as well as a postmaster certificate program. WOC nursing incorporates principles and practices that promote, maintain, and restore health for persons with wounds, ostomies, and continence problems throughout their lives. WOC nurses specialize in the care of individuals with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary and integument systems. On-site: Three graduate-level credits for a total of 9 credit hours. Fall Semester: A 3-credit-hour graduate-level class on introduction to WOC nursing is offered. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This program is offered for registered nurses who seek advanced knowledge and skills in the management of chronic and complex wounds. The Web-supported portion of the program is 6 weeks and provides content using multiple teaching and learning strategies, with 24 hour per day availability and universal access to the classroom and content. This prepares the student for the intensive on-site portion of the class which consists of 14 days of didactic and clinical experience. The course addresses a broad range of wounds, healing problems, and components of specialized nursing practice using a variety of expert faculty. Concepts guiding the didactic content and practicum are prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of the healing process. A unique aspect of the program is the selection and matching of students with preceptors certified in wound care and practicing in various health care settings. Students will earn six graduate quarter credits.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Wound Management Specialty Program is a continuing nursing education program, offered by the VA Eastern Kansas Wound Management Academy and is fully accredited as a traditional 3 week on-site educational program by the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Society. The program consists of approximately 90 hours didactic and 40 hours of clinical experience, with WOC preceptors in the VA and greater Kansas City Area.
The Academy is located in Leavenworth, Kansas at the Eastern Kansas Health Care System's VA Medical Center. The course prepares the nurse to practice preventive, rehabilitative, health maintenance, and therapeutic interventions in the management of acute and chronic wounds, fistulae, management of percutaneous drains and tubes, and lower extremity diseases. Our goal is to prepare nurses with a quality wound specialty program that optimizes patient outcomes across the lifespan.
Graduates of the course will be eligible to take the national board certification examination offered by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Certification Board to become a Certified Wound Care Nurse.

(There are unique learner situations where traveling to do the clinical practicum may be necessary.) webWOC was the first web-based program accredited by the WOCN Society and celebrated its 12th year online in 2012. New to the Program this year is a practicum completion involving a Portfolio Evaluation. webWOC is the only Program accredited by the WOCN Society to offer this option.
