We live in a "give it to me now" culture that is pathological about getting things on demand. With the click of a mouse, we can access information through the Internet, and in a matter of seconds, gather thousands of files of information on every topic from A through Z. We want it now, or better yet, yesterday. With this in mind, a lot of us have forgotten the importance of patience in our lives. We all need to remember to be patient with the people and situations in our lives.
I know a lot of you have been waiting patiently for the development of the Non-Surgical Aesthetic Certification. The task force has been working hard toward this, and I hope that they will be able to offer a pilot test in the near future. It looks like we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I will keep you posted on our progress.
I want to remind everyone to check and see when your certifications are due for renewal. We changed management firms this past year, and a few people may have fallen between the cracks on receiving a reminder notice. The deadline for those selecting the continuing education option is at least 60 days in advance of the expiration date listed on the certificate. Forty-five (45) contact hours within a 3-year period are required to meet the contact hour requirement.
Thirty (30) must be specifically related to plastic surgical nursing. Applicants for recertification must currently practice plastic surgical nursing at least 50% of their working hours. I want to remind those nurses up for recertification that a new requirement was added last year for 2.
Patient safety continuing education units (CEUs) need to be included in your 45 contact hours. You can easily pick up these CEUs by attending our national meeting and journal articles, or you can go to the ASPSN Web site and check out the new 2012 webinar series.
Mark your calendars for the ASPSN 38th Annual Convention in New Orleans, LA, October 26-29, 2012. I look forward to seeing everyone.
