The 2012 National Conference for Nurse Practitioners (NCNP), taking place in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. May 16 to 19, offers attendees a wide variety of speakers and presentations directed at specific issues in the healthcare community. The keynote speaker for this year is Tom Bartol, RN-C, MN, FNP, CDE, working in Richmond, Maine, and an active member of the Maine Nurse Practitioner Association and the American Diabetes Association. Mr. Bartol speaks to both regional and national audiences about diabetes and various healthcare topics year round, and will be opening the NCNP with a presentation on Evidence-Based Medicine. This keynote session will focus on the "information overload" that primary care practitioners often face, and how they can successfully incorporate this information into clinical practice. Mr. Bartol has written several articles for various publications, including The Nurse Practitioner and has academic affiliations at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, and Husson College in Bangor, Maine. His clinical areas of interest and expertise include: diabetes, endothelial dysfunction, health maintenance, insulin resistance, and dermatologic procedures.

In addition to the hands-on workshops being offered, there will be several speakers discussing various healthcare topics including: Prescription Drug Abuse and Misuse; Hypertension in the Elderly; Chronic Cancer-Related Pain; Food-Borne Illness; Smoking Cessation, and many more.
Another valuable feature of the conference is the chance for attendees to earn continuing-education (CE) credits. Wolters Kluwer Health/Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, publisher of The Nurse Practitioner, will award a maximum of 21 contact hours for participating in the available continuing nursing education activities.
