Each year, Nursing Management journal's editorial board recognizes a nurse leader who viewsnursing as both an art and a science by promoting caring and competence as the link between science and humanity. This individual is named the year's Visionary Leader.

 

To enter the 2011 award competition, composea manuscript of up to 2,000 words detailinga colleague's accomplishment in the planning,development, implementation, and evaluation of a sustainable change in the work environment orclinical practice that has resulted in a positiveoutcome. The manuscript should articulate evidence that addresses the following guidelines:

 

(R) Work environment: Significantly influences thework environment through the implementation ofcreative strategies to improve a professional modelof care, nurse satisfaction, or professional development.

 

(R) Clinical practice: Active implementation of strategies that support the advancement of nursingscience through clarifying, refining, and expanding the nursing knowledge base by influencing patient care delivery.

 

The entry should address the leader's ability tosustain excellence through insight, inspiration,creativity, and the ability to reproduce results inother organizations.

 

Nursing Management's editorial board will select the winner based on a point system assigned to the manuscript's readability, originality, and evidence of credibility. We'll feature the winning manuscript in our January 2012 issue. The selected honoree will receive a cash award and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Nursing -Management Congress2011, which includes round-trip airfare, conference registration, and hotel accommodations. At the opening ceremony, he or she will be recognized by Nursing Management's editor-in-chief and by a representative from B.E. Smith, this year's award sponsor.
