Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification Board

The Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) awarded the second annual WOCNCB Scholarship to the Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) to Linda R. Droste, MSN, RN, COCN, CWCN, CCCN, of Richmond, Virginia. The WOCNCB sponsors the scholarship to NIWI to empower the scholarship winner to participate in important dialogs about patient care and healthcare reform at the local, state, and national levels. The annual scholarship is open to any current WOCNCB-certified nurse who is not currently serving on the WOCNCB board of directors.

Diana Gallagher, MS, RN, CWOCN, CFCN, president of the WOCNCB, noted that Ms Droste's application stood out "because of her work as a Veteran's Association (VA) employee and volunteer involvement at the VA and WOCN Society and because of her proven communication abilities as a writer and presenter."

In other news, the newest Public Member of the WOCNCB, William (Bill) Hogan, ME, was selected by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) as the 2010 recipient of the ICE Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is presented to recognize the lifetime achievement of an individual whose vision, efforts, commitment, and contributions have advanced the credentialing profession.

"The WOCNCB could not be more pleased at the well-deserved honor that has been bestowed upon Bill," said Ms Gallagher. "Bill has already demonstrated his vision and commitment through his enthusiastic, timely, and creative contributions to many WOCNCB meetings and projects. We are grateful to have such a distinguished representative of the credentialing profession serving on our board."

Mr Hogan has been extremely active in the professional testing and measurement community for more than 38 years. He has provided thousands of hours of volunteer leadership and service to not only ICE, but also many other professional organizations.
