My name is Karen Bruton and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new President of the Canadian Association for Enterostomal Therapy (CAET). I am looking forward to supporting specialized enterostomal therapy nursing care to positively impact patients experiencing challenges in wound, ostomy, and/or continence.
There are many challenging issues that we are facing in healthcare such as available services, cost effectiveness, and being able to sustain the healthcare system as the population ages. Our goal is to see change to the healthcare system that leads to patients having positive outcomes and that specialized Enterostomal Therapy Nurses have ongoing education, CNA certification, and the tools to teach other healthcare professionals to build capacity within the healthcare system. I believe that the collaboration between CAET and JWOCN will help advance quality and cost-effective care delivery.
The CAET Board of Directors have been working hard to make sure that initiatives are moving forward. The implementation of the new CAET Strategic Plan will be a major focus over the next 2 years. I look forward to working together to improve wound, ostomy, and continence care and patient outcomes.
