Nurses' Health Study III

The Nurses' Health Study is enrolling a new group of young nurses for the Nurses' Health Study III. The goal is to enroll 100,000 or more female RNs and LPNs between 22 and 45 years old (born after January 1, 1965). Much like the first two Nurses' Health Studies, which began in 1976 and 1989, this new study will follow a large group of women over many years. The goal is to learn more about how women's lifestyle in their 20s, 30s, and 40s influences health later in life. The results of these studies benefit all women by providing valuable research into the causes of disease and the factors that promote healthy lives.

The new study is entirely web-based. Visit http://www.nhs3.org to learn more or to join the study. Consider the contribution you can make to the health and wellness of women tomorrow by participating in this study today.

Academic Honesty

I read "Encouraging Academic Honesty" in the July-September 2010 issue with great interest. Johanson wrote, "The integrity of the nursing profession may, in fact, be jeopardized as students with the habit of cheating graduate and enter the field" (p. 268). I would like to share some ideas on this topic.

Any professional worker can have problems associated with academic dishonesty. Promotion of academic honesty has been long discussed and professional curriculums include statements regarding academic honesty, yet the problem still exists. Is the problem part of the present teaching system? To deal with this issue I believe two important questions still need to be addressed: (1) Is academic dishonesty a rooted behavior since childhood? (2) Is there a lack of good role models?
