Abstract
In late 1997, a group of nurses and physicians from Massachusetts joined to form the Ad Hoc Committee to Defend Health Care. Together, these health care providers worked to recapture caregiving from bottom-line-driven entities. The following is an excerpt from a speech by Judith Shindul-Rothschild, PhD, RN, given before more than 800 doctors, nurses, and consumers on December 2, 1997, at Faneuil Hall in Boston, Massachusetts, spearheading a national movement against the corporatization of health care services.
