Michigan CE Requirements for License Renewal
As a nurse in the state of Michigan, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license. All of our CE activities are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Renewal Requirements
RN
- Every two years
- 25 hours of continuing education
- 2 hours in pain and pain symptom management
- 2 hours implicit bias initially (first renewal), followed by 1 hour every two years
- For licenses that have lapsed for 3 years or more (and not licensed in another state or Canada), an additional 3 hours are required in each of the following areas:
- Safe documentation for nurses
- Critical thinking skills for nurses
- Pharmacology
- Preventing medication errors
- Professional and legal accountability for nurses
- Delegation
LPN
- Every two years
- 25 hours of continuing education
- 2 hours in pain and pain symptom management
- 2 hours implicit bias initially (first renewal), followed by 1 hour every two years
- For licenses that have lapsed for 3 years or more (and not licensed in another state or Canada), an additional 3 hours are required in each of the following areas:
- Safe documentation for nurses
- Critical thinking skills for nurses
- Pharmacology
- Preventing medication errors
- Professional and legal accountability for nurses
Advanced Practice
- Every two years
- 25 hours of continuing education
- 2 hours in pain and pain symptom management
- 2 hours implicit bias initially (first renewal), followed by 1 hour every two years
- For licenses that have lapsed for 3 years or more (and not licensed in another state or Canada), an additional 3 hours are required in each of the following areas:

- Critical thinking skills for nurses
- Pharmacology
- Preventing medication errors
- Professional and legal accountability for nurses
- Delegation
