District of Columbia (DC) CE Requirements for License Renewal

District-of-Columbia.jpegAs a nurse in DC, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license. All of our CE activities are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). 

Renewal Requirements

RN 

  • Every two years
    • 24 hours of continuing education 
      • 2 hours LGBTQ or cultural awareness
      • 3 hours on a public health priority including topics such as: opioid prescribing and pain management; nutrition and obesity prevention; identifying and reporting abuse (child and adult), neglect (child and adult), human trafficking, and domestic violence; sexual health (including HIV/AIDS, HPV vaccines, connections to cancer, latent tuberculosis, safe sex, and birth control); ethics (boundaries, patient privacy); smoking, vaping and tobacco; preparing patients for an emergency; identifying impairment (physical or mental); vaccinations; implicit bias, cultural competence and Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in health care
LPN
  • Every two years
    • 18 hours of continuing education
      • 2 hours LGBTQ or cultural awareness
      • 3 hours on a public health priority including topics such as: opioid prescribing and pain management; nutrition and obesity prevention; identifying and reporting abuse (child and adult), neglect (child and adult), human trafficking, and domestic violence; sexual health (including HIV/AIDS, HPV vaccines, connections to cancer, latent tuberculosis, safe sex, and birth control); ethics (boundaries, patient privacy); smoking, vaping and tobacco; preparing patients for an emergency; identifying impairment (physical or mental); vaccinations; implicit bias, cultural competence and Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in health care 
Advanced Practice
  • Every 2 years
    • 24 hours of continuing education, including 15 pharmacology hours in area of practice 
      • 2 hours LGBTQ or cultural awareness
      • 3 hours on a public health priority including topics such as: opioid prescribing and pain management; nutrition and obesity prevention; identifying and reporting abuse (child and adult), neglect (child and adult), human trafficking, and domestic violence; sexual health (including HIV/AIDS, HPV vaccines, connections to cancer, latent tuberculosis, safe sex, and birth control); ethics (boundaries, patient privacy); smoking, vaping and tobacco; preparing patients for an emergency; identifying impairment (physical or mental); vaccinations; implicit bias, cultural competence and Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in health care
