GLOBAL CARDIOVASCULAR NURSING FORUM 2022 MEETING
The 2022 Global Cardiovascular Nursing Forum (GCNLF) Meeting was held in Copenhagen this year, where we welcomed 23 participants from 11 different countries. Laura Hayman, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAHA, kicked off the meeting with the history of GCNLF, including our accomplishments and goals. Sidney C. Smith, MD, spoke on the importance of implementation and collaboration among nurses as they are the largest discipline managing cardiovascular disease. Michelle Acorn, DNP, NP PHC/Adult, MN/ACNP, BScN/PHCNP, FCAN, GCNC, presented on the importance of advocacy within the nursing field, including mental health awareness for nurses and the impacts of the socioeconomic welfare of nurses.
The attendees split into breakout groups to identify challenges and opportunities for nurses to improve prevention and management of cardiovascular disease at the global level and how GCNLF can partner seize these opportunities. Some themes to come out of these discussions include the following:
* The variation of nursing expertise, education, and training across countries and the need for strategies to reconcile these differences.
* Harnessing the power of nurses to advocate for themselves and for cardiovascular health, stroke prevention, and management.
* Meaningful collaboration among liaison organizations is essential.
* The need for a strong focus on implementation into practice.
* Importance of emphasizing and growing nurses as leaders.
The 2022 meeting was the sixth gathering of the GCNLF and continues its mission of engaging and mobilizing an international community of nurse leaders to promote the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke worldwide.
HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY: CASE STUDY VIDEOS
Learn from clinicians, including those in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy centers of excellence, in these 2 short videos about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy diagnosis and management. HEART FAILURE SUMMIT
With more than 6.5 million Americans affected by heart failure,1 it is paramount that clinicians stay updated on guidelines-directed medical therapies and their application in clinical practice. The PCNA's third annual Heart Failure Summit involved the latest updates to HF management and the interconnectedness of heart failure and cardiometabolic disorders. Participants learned about the latest guidelines for heart failure disease management, strategies to reduce hospital readmission, impacts of social determinants of health, combination therapy, and the benefits of cardiac rehabilitation programs. INCREASING REPRESENTATION IN CLINICAL TRIALS
Clinical trials provide information on new ways to prevent, detect, or treat cardiovascular and other diseases-and the more diverse the trial participants, the better the results for all our patients. NEW LEARNING ON THE GO: HEART TO HEART NURSES PODCAST
This podcast of the PCNA covers a wide range of topics for the cardiovascular nursing professional and their cardiovascular colleagues.
