2022 JGPT Best Article Award: This annual award is given to the authors of the best paper published in the Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy (JGPT) in the prior year. We had many strong contenders, and the decision this year was a difficult one. The editors of the JGPT are pleased to announce the winner of the 2022 JGPT Best Article Award: Congratulations to the authors, Zachary D. Rethorn, PT, DPT; Kyle J. Covington, PT, DPT, PhD; Chad E. Cook, PT, PhD, MBA, FAPTA; and Janet R. Bezner, PT, DPT, PhD, FAPTA! Their study, "Physical Activity Promotion Attitudes and Practices Among Outpatient Physical Therapists: Results of a National Survey," was published early last year (J Geriatr Phys Ther. 2021;44(1):25-34).
Journal Status: The JGPT saw a steady submission rate, receiving 290 submissions in 2021. Of these, 142 (49%) were assigned to an editor for a second review. Of these, 56 (39%) entered into the peer-review system. Manuscripts originated from the United States and 29 other countries. Of the 215 papers for which final disposition was determined in 2021, 24, or 11%, were accepted. We are pleased to report that Journal Citation Reports indicate a 2020 impact factor of 3.381 for the JGPT; this score is similar to the prior year. SCImago ranks the Journal in the top 5% of Rehabilitation journals (5/130) and the top 25% of Geriatrics and Gerontology journals (24/108); both of these ranks are higher than the prior year.
Reviewer Appreciation: Manuscripts submitted to the JGPT progress through a rigorous 3-stage review process that includes the Journal's Editor (stage 1), 5 Associate Editors (stage 2), and 2 peer reviewers per paper (stage 3). Each of the Associate Editors (Bill Andrews, Kevin Chui, Ann Medley, Kerstin Palombaro, and Robert Wellmon) review many manuscripts annually and guide the best of them through the peer-review and revision process. I am grateful for their dedication, collaborative hard work, and professional contributions to the JGPT. Bob Wellmon, our Social and Digital Media coordinator, goes above and beyond to promote author and reader engagement via Facebook, Twitter, etc, and I thank him for these extra efforts.
Working with the Editorial Team, the 92 Editorial Board members and the following list of Reviewers each reviewed 1 or more manuscripts for the Journal in 2021. Their generous professional service improves the quality of JGPT publications, and we truly appreciate their commitment to ensure that accepted papers meet high standards for scientific rigor and clinical relevance.
