In "When Providing Care Is a Moral Issue" (AJN Reports, October) by Joy Jacobson, it was incorrectly stated that RU-486, the so-called abortion pill, is not available in the United States. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration approved the antiprogesterone drug mifepristone (Mifeprex) in 2000 for the termination of pregnancy at 49 days' gestation or less. It's used in combination with misoprostol (Cytotec), which induces uterine contractions, to cause abortion.
