On February 13, 2005, during the HIMSS 2005 Annual Conference, the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI) leadership discussed and voted on a partnership to collaborate with Computers, Informatics, Nursing (CIN). On April 30, 2005, this new partnership became a reality. The partnership provides a number of benefits to individual members of all ANI member organizations.
There are two objectives for the partnership. The first is to provide a benefit to individual members of ANI member organizations by offering a subscription to CIN at a discounted rate. The second is to make CIN the communication vehicle of choice for publicizing ANI news, activities, content, and developments at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
The Editor-in-Chief and the publisher of CIN have long been supportive of collaborative relationships between nursing informatics organizations and the journal. Unfortunately, communication has often been hindered because of the large number of nursing informatics (NI) organizations and the difficulty in communicating directly with the members. The new Alliance for Nursing Informatics presents an opportunity for enhanced communication and collaboration while still maintaining the identity of the individual member NI organizations.
The details of the partnership objectives are as follows:
* CIN will offer a discounted rate to individual members of ANI member organizations
Individual members of ANI member organizations will have a discounted subscription rate of $59.95 per year. These proposed ANI rates are guaranteed through December 2007 for each subscriber signing up under the ANI affiliation.
The ANI, the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) will publicize the availability of the discount to their respective memberships through their Web sites, newsletters, and other communication venues. Other ANI organizations will also be able to let their members know of the discount opportunity through their newsletters, listservs, and other communication vehicles.
Subscriptions for ANI affiliate members will be handled by the customer service department of CIN. ANI members may subscribe through the CIN in number of ways. Subscriptions may be placed
* through the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Web site, http://LWW.com, using links that will placed on the Alliance for Nursing Informatics Web site, http://www.allianceni.org,
* by calling 1-800-638-3030,
* at HIMSS and AMIA conferences, or
* by responding to direct mail or flyers that may be sent to potential subscribers.
This ANI discount offer applies to new subscribers. Current subscribers may renew their subscription at the discounted rate of $59.95 when the existing subscription is about to expire, or call to extend their current subscription by 6 issues at the $59.95 rate.
* CIN will publicize ANI news, activities, content, and developments at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
ANI Connection will now become a regular feature of CIN. There will be four pages per issue devoted to a variety of content, such as news items, articles, position papers, membership news, and announcements.
These pages will be coordinated by the ANI Connection Editor, and overseen by the CIN Editor-in-Chief. The ANI Connection Editor is a new position created through the collaboration. After a national search, Deborah Lewis, EdD, RN, MPH, was selected for the position (see accompanying article for more information about Dr Lewis). The ANI Connection Editor will also serve as an ex-officio member of the ANI Governing Directors. ANI Editorial pages will be indexed in CINAHL and Medline, and will also be available in full text on http://CINJournal.com and http://NursingCenter.com.
The leadership for the CIN-ANI partnership includes Connie Delaney, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACMI, AMIA-ANI Cochair, and Dean, University of Minnesota School of Nursing; Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN, BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, HIMSS-ANI Cochair, and Vice President, Informatics, HIMSS; Leslie H. Nicoll, PhD, MBA, RN, BC, Editor-in-Chief, CIN; Karen Greenwood, Executive Vice President, AMIA; and Beth Guthy, Publisher, CIN, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
At present, the Alliance is made up of 20 organizations (Table 1). The ANI Steering Committee is composed of representatives from each organization as well as the American Nurses Association, CIN, and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (Table 2). The ANI and CIN are dedicated to the success and productivity of this collaboration.
In the Next ANI Connection[horizontal ellipsis]
Abstracts from the Summer Institute on Nursing Informatics (SINI) Award-winning peer-reviewed papers and posters will appear in the ANI Connection of the November/December issue of CIN. If you were not able to attend the conference, this is a great opportunity for an overview of top-tier presentations from "Breaking Through the Barriers of Healthcare Informatics: People, Process & Technology," the 15th Annual Summer Institute on Nursing Informatics, hosted by the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
