Ingestion of foreign bodies (and caustic substances) can be endoscopic emergencies. Which ones are crucial to remove promptly and which are not? What are the danger signs? We will review the literature and share 25 years of personal experience.

Infectious diarrhea is a common problem when traveling abroad and a sporadic but important malady at home in Western societies. Patients are frequently referred for evaluation. Understanding the pathophysiology is key to treatment (and prevention).

Both topics are presented under the principle of "Science needn't be hard [horizontal ellipsis] and it should be a lot of fun."

The diversity of these topics certainly reflects the richness and breadth of our specialty.
