SonoPrep(R)
Sontra Medical Corporation has received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market SonoPrep(R) for use with topical lidocaine. The SonoPrep device applies relatively low frequency ultrasonic energy to the skin for 15 seconds, creating imperceptible, reversible micro-channels through the outer layer of the skin. The skin becomes permeable, and the onset of action for transdermal drugs is accelerated. Clinical data from 3 studies demonstrates that rapid skin anesthesia was achieved in patients within 5 minutes when application of lidocaine followed a skin pretreatment with SonoPrep(R). This is an improvement over the usual 60-minute wait associated with lidocaine and other topical anesthesia drugs. For more information, visit http://www.sontra.com.
Ultra-Clean(TM) Catheter Site Disinfection System
Colonization of microorganisms around a catheter site of entry is a major health concern and can lead to serious infection or death. It has been proven that ultraviolet (UV) light with a wavelength between 220 and 315 nanometers can be used to sterilize and disinfect. UV Solutions has developed a flash-based UV "Puck," in conjunction with UV transmissive dressings and an adhesive-backed light seal, to be used in the sterilization and disinfection of catheter sites. The "Puck" is a palm-sized, battery-operated instrument that delivers a single flash of UVC light through the custom dressing, significantly reducing the colonization of microorganisms around the catheter site. The UV flash technology of Ultra-Clean(TM) promises nonchemical, nonirritating site preparation prior to catheter placement and a significantly decreased need for dressing changes. Venetec StatLock IV Ultra Neonate
Venetec has introduced a new catheter securement device designed to replace tape when securing peripheral IV catheters in neonates. The StatLock IV Ultra Neonate uses a custom-formulated adhesive on a breathable anchor pad to protect the fragile skin of infants. It is designed to reduce catheter movement and provide full visibility of the insertion site. The latex-free, hypoallergenic device also increases catheter dwell time and reduces the cost and risk associated with unscheduled catheter restarts.
