March is Red Cross Month-an annual event during which the organization honors the "everyday heroes" who help support its mission to alleviate the suffering caused by disasters and emergencies. Anyone can assist the Red Cross by donating money, giving blood, or signing up to become a volunteer. (More than 15,000 nurses and nursing students serve as Red Cross volunteers.) For more information on ways to get involved, visit http://www.redcross.org. In addition, click on the "Collections" tab on AJN's homepage to access free Disaster and Emergency Preparedness articles, which provide resources and other information for nurses on responding in the event of a disaster.-Diane Szulecki, editor
