The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) won two 2003 Spotlight Awards for Excellence from the League of American Communications Professionals. The league recognized AACN in two categories: speeches and advertising campaigns.

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center earned the 2003 HIMSS Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence for Healthcare Organizations. Members of the award task force at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society chose the facility to recognize its implementation of computer-based patient record systems.
Patty Hale, BSN, PhD, professor of nursing at Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, Va., along with three other professors, received the 2003 U.S. Professor of the Year Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
