Abstract
When someone says, "I never really got over my operation," it means that that person has not accomplished the formidable tasks of convalescence. These include reassessment of one's goals in life, reintegration of a changed body image, working out feelings about dependence and independence, and coping with heightened emotional reactions and role failure, as well as making physical adaptations.
