The BioNavigation Catheter Locating System permits accurate determination of the position of central venous catheters, peripherally inserted central catheters, and nasogastric and NE feeding tubes. It eliminates "blind" placement or the need for on-line x-ray of fluoroscopy during placement, and reduces the number of confirming x-rays to one per procedure. The system consists of a sterile, disposable "sensor stylet," which is inserted and locked within any catheter or tube to be placed, and a hand-held, battery-operated electronic instrument that displays the exact position and direction of the catheter or tube tip. HT Medical Systems Phlebotomy and Pediatric IV Modules for CathSim Simulator
These CathSim software modules are part of an expanding library of procedural simulations for what has quickly become the top-selling medical simulator in the world. CathSim offers a higher level of realism by incorporating computer software, hardware, and the Accutouch Intravenous Interface Device to replicate patient cases and varying levels of difficulty. Most importantly, it provides the feel of performing the procedure on an actual patient. The Pediatric IV Catheterization module features four cases, ranging from a 5-day-old neonate to a 5-year-old child. It includes practice on starting IV catheters in antecubital veins, the greater saphenous vein at the ankle, and the scalp of a neonate. This module, which adheres to the Standards of Practice of the IntravenousNurses Society, also addresses psychosocial interventions to ease the child's and parent's fears and the use of topical anesthesia. The Phlebotomy module has six cases representing a variety of people likely to be encountered in a hospital, clinic, or freestanding laboratory in a multinational metropolitan area. The blood drawing technique taught is that of the evacuated tube. The module addresses the important steps in drawing blood, including universal precautions, proper patient identification, proper tube selection and draw order, and commonly encountered complications.
