Care of patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) is complex, requiring an intricate knowledge base and a concerted multidisciplinary effort. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons has issued the Guidelines for the Management of Severe Head Injury as an evidence-based practice tool to direct the practitioner in critical decision-making. The multifaceted aspects of TBI involve treatments that are not only standardized but also individualized to produce optimal neurological outcomes for each patient. Care delivery is constantly evolving as research efforts continually discover new dimensions of TBI and treatment potentials.

We dedicate this issue to the caregivers who provide both physical and psychological care in very stressful situations. They touch the lives of not only the patients but also their families and, in turn, have a part of their own lives altered forever. We wish you strength and perseverance along with physical and emotional support in sustaining your compassion and dedication in the care of the patient with TBI.
