The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) recently finalized its 2017-2019 strategic plan, and execution is underway! STN exists to ensure optimal trauma care to all people globally through initiatives focused on trauma nurses related to prevention, education, and collaboration with other health care disciplines. To that end, the STN Board of Directors has prioritized the following goals:
1. Promote excellence in trauma care through advocacy and public policy.
2. Establish and provide the highest quality educational resources for trauma professionals.
3. Design leadership development activities and resources for STN members.
4. Develop and execute initiatives that promote excellence and research across the continuum of trauma care.
5. Create a culture of alliance building and build coalitions to achieve objectives.
STN needs you! The 2017-2018 program year has just begun, and there are abundant opportunities for member involvement. Member participation and input are the foundation of STN success. Please consider volunteering your time and talent to advance trauma nursing. Standing committees include the following:
* ATCN Committee: Provides operational oversight for ATCN course and maintains course curriculum in concurrence with ATLS.
* Clinical Resources Committee: Identifies and develops clinical tools and resources to serve STN members.
* Conference Planning Committee: Develops conference educational and social programming for TraumaCon, STN's Annual Conference.
* EAST Conference Planning Committee: Develops STN courses to submit and present for the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) annual meeting.
* Geriatric Special Interest Group: Develops tools and resources to assist STN members in delivering optimal trauma care to older adults.
* Government Affairs and Public Policy: Monitor the legislative and regulatory landscape and advocate for optimal trauma care.
* Injury Prevention Special Interest Group: Develops tools and resources to fortify injury prevention programs and best practices.
* International Council: Establish and maintain international relationships and programming to serve STN members outside of the United States.
* Leadership Development Committee: Develop programming and resources to assist STN members in sharpening leadership skills.
* Membership and Communications Committee: Assesses member needs and develops strategies to deliver products and services to meet them.
* Pediatric Steering Committee: Develops tools and resources to assist STN members in delivering optimal trauma care to children.
* TOPIC Committee: Provides oversight for TOPIC course curriculum and operational implementation.
* TCRN Preparatory Resource Committee: Develops resources and information to assist trauma nurses in preparing for the TCRN certification examination.
