NACNS Vice-President, Nancy E. Dayhoff, EdD, RN, was elected as an at-large director of the Indiana Hospital & Health Association Board of Directors. Her 2-year term of office began January 1, 2003. The Indiana Hospital & Health Association is the professional trade association for 151 Indiana hospitals and health systems. In addition, she is completing the second year of a 2-year term on the Indiana Hospital & Health Association's Council on Hospital Governance. Dr Dayhoff has been a member of Major Hospital's Board of Directors since 1978 through appointments by the Hospital Appointing Board composed of city and county government officials. She has served as treasurer and vice-president and has held the position of President of the Board since 1991.
Deborah Antai-Otong, MS, RN, PMH-NP, CS, FAAN, has a newly published textbook entitled Psychiatric Nursing: Biological and Behavioral Concepts (Delmar Learning Publishers), 2003.
Theresa Posani, MS, RN, CNS, CS, CCNS, CCRN, has recently moved to a full-time lecturer position at Baylor University School of Nursing (BUSON). As a new BUSON faculty member, she has received a scholarship opportunity to the Baylor University Summer Faculty Institute this summer. In addition, she was awarded an opportunity to participate in the NOEP Faculty training program at M.D. Anderson this May. This program is to train Texas nursing faulty in issues regarding oncology patients.
Nancy Richards, MSN, RN, CCRN, CCNS, is one of only 2 recipients for 2003 to receive the Excellent Clinical Nurse Specialist Award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). This prestigious national award recognizes clinical nurse specialists who demonstrate leadership, advanced practice clinical skills, research application, evidence-based practice, outcome-focused practice, cost containment, quality assurance, mentoring, problem solving, and communication with patients, families, staff and systems. Among other forms of recognition, Nancy will have all her expenses paid to attend AACN's National Teaching Institute this May and be recognized in award presentations at the conference. Nancy is a CNS working with cardiothoracic surgical patients at the Mid America Heart Institute of Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Miss (reported by Mary Stahl, President of the Greater Kansas City Clinical Nurse Specialist Group for 2003, a recent new affiliate of NACNS).
Kathy Jensen, MS, RN, CCRN, ARNP, and the Surgical Cardiovascular Quality Improvement Team of Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, have been selected to receive the 2003 AACN Circle of Excellence Multidisciplinary Team Award. This American Association of Critical Care Nurses award will be presented at the National Teaching Institute in San Antonio in May. This award is presented to an interdisciplinary team that has demonstrated a collaborative effort to significantly improve outcomes. During the last 3 years, the team has made improvements that have resulted in their exceeding all key clinical benchmarks recognized by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. During this time the team has maintained a high level of customer satisfaction while saving $1,527,698 (reported by Mary Stahl).
