Abstract
Registered Nurses of the 1970s and 1980s promoted the acceptance of the RN as a valued, professional member of the clinical team. The author, a nationally recognized expert witness in health care administration, compares that mind-set to the mechanical, nonthinking discharge of nursing responsibilities occurring in hospitals today.
