Maine CE Requirements for License Renewal
As a nurse in the state of Maine, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active APRN license. All of our CE activities are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Renewal Requirements
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
- Every two years
- 50 hours of continuing education, with a minimum of 30 hours of Category I; no more than 20 Category II
- APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete 15-45 hours in pharmacology (depending on prescribing practices) and 3 contact hours of Category I continuing education on the prescribing of opioid medication
- If applicant has not prescribed in last 2 years, 15 contact hours of pharmacology must be completed in the prior 2 years.
- If applicant has not prescribed in last 5 years, 45 contact hours (of a 3-credit pharmacology course) must be completed in the prior 2 years.
