Let me start by saying how thrilled I am to be the new Editor-in-Chief of Nursing2009. My vision for the journal is to provide readers with timely and clinically relevant information that will elevate nursing practice, foster innovation, inspire excellence, and energize nurses to achieve their professional best.

We live in exciting but challenging times. The healthcare field is experiencing an information explosion. All sorts of information comes to us, unfiltered, from so many sources, some of them of questionable value and integrity. The sheer volume of information available can overwhelm even the savviest professional.

Nursing2009 is ready to lend you a hand. We're pleased to introduce a new, more personalized online interface that combines journal content and various media to enable you to communicate and collaborate with other nursing professionals. Our goal at Nursing2009 is to provide you with one-stop shopping for all your online needs. Although the site is new and improved, our Web address remains the same: http://www.nursing2009.com.

Like Nursing, the new site is designed to provide practical information you can use immediately at the bedside. Innovative features, available now or ready for launch in the coming months, include:

* editors' top picks-articles we think are particularly noteworthy as well as those that users have accessed most often

* online-only text

* podcasts, videos, and blogs

* networking opportunities, including your comments on articles (tell us how we're doing!!)

* opportunities to create your own collections of articles and audiovisual extras

* the option of receiving really simple syndication (RSS) feeds and e-mailed news alerts. RSS lets you subscribe to site updates, such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, or video, and view them all in one place.

* all issues of Nursing from 1971, its first year of publication, to the present (all articles are free to subscribers).

I invite you to visit the site regularly, put it to work, and give us feedback-we're listening!! Your comments will drive ongoing refinements and keep us on track to meet your needs. Don't be surprised if the next nursing professional you see working the keys of a BlackBerry, laptop, or iPhone is tapping into the wealth of nursing information in the many new formats we offer at http://www.nursing2009.com.
