Today, the need for nursing faculty is recognized as a root cause of the nursing shortage. Every year, capable applicants are denied admission to nursing schools because of the lack of doctorally prepared faculty to teach them. Fewer than 10% of faculty in associate's degree and diploma programs hold doctorates.1
The Nurses Educational Funds, Inc. (NEF), was established in 1952, when the scholarship funds honoring nursing pioneers Isabel Hampton Robb and Isabel McIsaac were combined to support advanced study in nursing. Visit the NEF Web site (http://www.n-e-f.org) to check out eligibility requirements and download the application, or write to the NEF at 304 Park Avenue South, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10010.
